The Speech Therapy department specialises in swallowing and, communication disorder management as well as cognition communication management. Our team of speech therapists provides these services to inpatients and outpatients within the main hospital, as well as at TTSH rehabilitation centre located within the Ang Mo Kio Hospital. Our speech therapists also provide regular service to various nursing homes located throughout the island, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health; as well as home visits to patients, through the Community Rehabilitation Program (CRP).
The speech therapists work alongside the medical, nursing professionals from different disciplines such as Neurosciences, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Gerontology (care of the elderly), General Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine and Radiology, as well as members from other allied health services, such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and dieticians in a multidisciplinary team. We provide holistic care for patients through direct intervention and education for their swallowing and/ or communication needs, sustaining continual care and maximising patient’s quality of life.
Our team is committed to maintaining good clinical standards of practice, through continual professional development and observing evidence-based practices. Speech therapists conduct regular in-service programmes, research, workshops and seminars as well as attend local and overseas conferences to keep up-to-date with research to ensure quality service is provided to our patients. The department also organises professional development talks and workshops for other professionals and the public, this is to increase awareness and generate interest regarding speech therapy as a profession.
Scope of Services Provided
Referrals to speech therapy are initiated by a medical doctor. The Speech Therapy Department provides a range of services including:
