Dr Chong Yew Lam received his medical degree and Masters degree in Surgery from the National University of Singapore, and is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Upon completing Urology residency in 2006, he was awarded the Singapore Urological Association-European Board of Urology Book Prize the same year. He has been a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore since 2007.
As a recipient of the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship, Dr Chong completed his fellowship training in Endourology and Minimally Invasive Urologic Oncology at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, USA, under the mentorship of Dr Demetrius H. Bagley Jr. and the esteemed faculty of the Department of Urology there.
Dr Chong is currently a Consultant Urologist in the Department of Urology, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and holds the appointment of Clinical Teacher at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. Besides general urological diseases, his specialty interests are in the application of minimally invasive surgical techniques in the management of urinary stone disease and urologic cancers. Areas of expertise include: prostate surgery, endoscopic and percutaneous surgery for urinary stones and other urinary tract disorders, metabolic evaluation and prevention of stone disease, laparoscopic kidney surgery, and daVinci robotic surgery for kidney, bladder and prostate tumours.
Aside from clinical practice, Dr Chong is active in clinical research, including being the Principal Investigator of a clinical drug trial to investigate its potential to improve treatment results of Shockwave Lithotripsy (SWL) for urinary stones.
