  • Cardiology Clinical Quality Indicators for the Year 2007

Clinical Quality Indicators are helpful as a measure of the sophistication of a system of care. The good results documented in the following Clinical Quality Indicators reflect the degree of expertise and maturity of the Quality of Care TTSH employs in its clinical practices. These indicators are consistent and do compare favourably with high international standards.

    Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) Indicators

  • 1170 patients with CHF are on follow-up with the Cardiology Department.
  • 99% of CHF patients have had objective evaluation of the Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction. This is important for further management of the patient.
  • 98% of CHF patients discharged from inpatient stay were given discharge instructions of how to continue with their care outside the hospital.
  • 99% of CHF patients discharged from inpatient stay who were smokers were given smoking cessation advice.

    Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack) Indicators

  • 100% of patients were given Aspirin within 6 hours of their arrival.
  • 258 patients underwent emergency angioplasty for Myocardial Infarction in 2007.
  • The 30-day mortality rate in patients with an acute myocardial infarction, but not in cardiogenic shock, undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for an acute myocardial infarction was 1.75%.
  • The 30-day mortality rate in patients with an acute myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock undergoing PCI was 55%.

    Preventive Cardiology Indicators

  • 95% of patients with coronary artery disease achieved an LDL-cholesterol level of less than 2.6mmol/L (100mg/dL).
  • 85% of patients with coronary artery disease with Blood Pressure treated to less than 140/90mmHg.
