Brain Injury Rehabilitation Programme

Brain Injury Rehabilitation

Offers an intensive team-based rehabilitation programme which aims to maximise the patient’s function to achieve independence within his/her disability. We also aim to facilitate reintegration into home and community living.

You or your loved one has just suffered an injury to the brain. This may have occurred from trauma (road accidents, falls, assaults), brain haemorrhage (blood clots) or tumours.

You may now be having some or all of the following complaints.

The Rehabilitation team

  • Consists of rehabilitation physician, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist and language therapist, psychologist, nurse, medical social worker and dietician.

The Rehabilitation programme

  • The programme is directed by a physician with individualised rehabilitation from medical and nusing care with therapy sessions which aim to maximise functional independence.

How you can help

  • As a patient, do maintain a positive attitude at all times.
  • Participate actively in your rehabilitation programme and build rapport with members of the team.
  • As a family member, support the patient, encourage and motivate him/her. Your presence may reduce the patient’s confusion and agitation.
  • You should also be actively involved in discharge planning at an early stage.

How you can be referred to the TTSH Brain Injury Rehabilitation Programme

Patients who wish to enrol into the Programme will need a prior assessment by a Rehabilitation Physician, either as an outpatient or inpatient. If you are an outpatient, an appointment can be made at the specialist outpatient at the TTSH Rehabilitation Centre. For more information, please contact Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.
