Introduction

The Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine offers comprehensive service for patients with airway and lung disorders including asthma, lung tumor, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pleural diseases, pulmonary infections, occupational lung disease, sleep-breathing disorders and chronic cough. It also provides diagnostic and therapeutic management of TB via TB Control Unit.

The Medical Intensive Care Unit, which is also part of the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, provides specialized care for critically ill medical patients who require intensive or high dependency care.

Services

The Department offers the following services:

	Specialist Respiratory Medicine Outpatient Clinic
	The clinic offers consultation for a wide range of both common and rare respiratory disorders.
	Asthma Clinic	The Asthma Clinic utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach, involving chest physicians and nurse educators to provide care for referred hard-to-manage asthma. A nurse clinician / educator is at hand at the clinic to attend to patients needing explainations about their diseases, medication and self-management.
	Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) Clinic	The COPD clinic provides optimal multidisciplinary care for patients with COPD. It also provides evaluation for spirometery and lung function testing, long-term oxygen therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation.
	Lung Tumour Clinic	The Lung Tumour Clinic is run by a panel of doctors comprising chest physicians, thoracic surgeons, radiation and medical oncologists to provide a one-stop evaluation for patients with, or suspected to have, lung cancer.
	Combined Sleep/Snoring Clinic	The clinic is run in collaboration with the Otorhinolaryngology Department to provide evaluation and treatment of sleep apnoea syndrome.
	Occupational Lung Clinic	The Occupational Lung Disease Clinic is a specialty clinic jointly run by staff from the Department of Respiratory Medicine and a visiting Consultant from the Ministry of Manpower. It evaluates patients with occupational asthma and other suspected lung disorders related to their work environment.
	Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM) Clinic	The clinic offers assessment as well as coordination of care for patients with NTM lung disease. It works in association with the Central TB lab in Singapore General Hospital to provide microbiologic diagnosis and sensitivity testing and with the Dept. of Infectious Diseases in TTSH to co-ordinate outpatient antibiotic treatment in those who need this service
