Sports Medicine and Surgery

TTSH Sports Service was established to take care of the increasingly active population in Singapore. The key members of the service are Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons with special interests in the management of Upper and Lower Limbs Sports Injuries.

Our service is committed to providing care for everyone. From the elite athletes to members of the public, from the aged to the adolescents, enabling each injured individual to return to their desired activities as soon as possible.

Our team of doctors also works closely with sports-trained physiotherapists from the Department of Physiotherapy, enabling suitable patients the best chance of recovery from nonoperative treatment. The physiotherapists also play a significant role in helping patients who require surgery to achieve maximum postoperative recovery.

Our doctors are trained in both traditional open surgery as well as minimally-invasive “key-hole” surgery. The latter, with smaller wounds and significantly less postoperative pain, allows most surgery to be performed as a day case or with an overnight stay.

Common “key-hole” surgeries performed at our centre include:

• Shoulder stabilisation for dislocation and instability
• Capsulotomy for recalcitrant frozen shoulder
• Rotator cuff repair of the shoulder for traumatic or degenerative tears
• Radiofrequency treatment for recalcitrant tennis or golfer’s elbows
• Removal of loose bodies of the elbow due to trauma
• Meniscectomy or repair of torn meniscus in the knees
• Ligaments reconstruction for ligaments tears of the knees
• Cartilage stimulation or resurfacing procedures for cartilage injuries
• Ankle unstability and pain
