This March, 48 Thai Emergency Department (ED) physicians will experience first hand, real life trauma situations at Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s (TTSH) Trauma Training Centre as part of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course. Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Thai Ambassador to Singapore, His Excellency, Mr Nopadol Gunavibool will attend the opening event, which will be held at TTSH on Wednesday, 5 March.
Under the Singapore-Thailand Civil Service Exchange Programme, the ED doctors will be immersed in a two-day intensive training session. To be held between 2 to 15 March 2008, the course focuses on enhancing their knowledge and techniques in trauma life support. These include didactic lectures, an animal practice session and real time trauma simulation sessions, where doctors will be taught a systematic, concise method of establishing assessment and management priorities aimed at improving the care of trauma patients.
Singapore is the only country in South East Asia and one of two countries in Asia to run this course in English. This is the second time Emergency Medicine physicians from Thailand are attending this programme. The inaugural ATLS course, held in January 2007, also attended by Thai doctors, was very well received. Thus, plans were made to conduct the programme in 2008.
Besides attending the course, these doctors will also be attached to TTSH’s Emergency Department. This two-day attachment will enhance their practical experience and extend networking opportunities with regional medical practitioners who will be attending the 9th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society of Emergency Medicine for Singapore.
A previous course attendee, Dr Chatchai Kraysubun, Head of Accident and Emergency Unit of Chaophayaabhaibhubejhr Hospital in Prachinburi Province said, “The training course was well organised, structured and logically presented. The course lecturers are very knowledgeable and experienced on the subjects. I find the course to be constructive, informative and practical for me.”
This collaboration is part of the Singapore-Thailand Civil Service Exchange Programme, supported by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore, under the Singapore Cooperation Programme. The course sponsors are Stryker Singapore Pte Ltd, Philips Medical System and B Braun Thailand.
We would like to invite you and your photographer/camera crew to cover this event. The media conference will be held at Tan Tock Seng Hospital on 5 March at 11:30am, followed by a Surgical Skills Live Demonstration at the laboratory.
