Art of Healing - Passion for Healing

Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Otto Bock proudly presents “Passion for Painting – An exhibition by Lee Soo Chee

Singapore - Artists with no limbs have been known to paint by holding brushes in their mouths or attached to their heads. However, advances in prosthesis has enabled Madam Lee Soo Chee to paint with her Myoelectric Prosthesis arm, a piece of sophisticated equipment able to respond to minute signals from the user, allowing the user to grasp items without risk of slipping.

Madam Lee’s love for painting started when she was a graduate in Hong Kong. She was a student of the famous Pan Shou, Situ Qi and Fan Changtian. Over the years, she became an artist in her own right with distinctive style.

In 2004, Madam Lee had both her arms and legs amputated due to complications arising from dengue fever and pre-existing conditions of hypertension and diabetes. It did not take long for Madam Lee to bounce back from the setback. Her desire to continue her lifelong passion for painting soon prevailed again. With the Myoelectric Prosthesis arm that was customised for her at TTSH Foot Care and Limb Design Centre, she is now able to paint with confidence again after going through rehabilitation at TTSH.

The exhibition, organised by Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s Art of Healing programme, will showcase more than 25 pieces of her paintings and calligraphy works. We hope to inspire our patients with her positive, never-say-die spirit with this exhibition.

The opening event will be held on 8th May. Madam Lee will be painting with her Myoelectric Prosthesis Arm. The Guest-of-Honour, Mr Goh Choon Kang, former MP of Marine Parade GRC will also be invited to inscribe on the painting.

Madam Lee will be donating the piece to TTSH Community Charity Fund to help raise funds for needy patients.

The event sponsor is Otto Bock - the global leader in Prosthetics.

We would like to invite you and your photographer / camera crew to cover this event. The opening event for the exhibition will be held at Tan Tock Seng Hospital on 8th of May at 11:30am and thereafter to a reception and photography/interview opportunity.
