Thai ED physicians to attend Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course in TTSH

Singapore - For the very first time, a group of 48 Thai Emergency Department physicians will be in Singapore to attend the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course which aims to improve the care of trauma patients. Offered by TTSH Trauma Training Centre, Singapore is the only country in South-East Asia and one of two countries in the whole of Asia to conduct the ATLS in English. At the TTSH Trauma Training Centre, the course is conducted once every two months.

The 2-day course includes didactic lectures, an animal practice session and real-time trauma simulation sessions. Doctors will be taught a systematic, concise method of establishing assessment and management priorities in the care of trauma patients.

The doctors are expected to arrive in two batches between 15 January to 26 January 2007. Special arrangements have been made to conduct the course twice in January to accommodate the visitors.

Besides attending the course, the physicians will also gain practical experiences through a 2-day Clinical Attachment at Tan Tock Seng Hospital Emergency Department and networking with regional medical practitioners at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society of Emergency Medicine for Singapore.

Said A/Prof Eillyne Seow, Head of Emergency Department, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, “This group of physicians is the first batch of emergency medicine graduates from Thailand's national emergency medicine training programme. We are happy to be able to provide this support in their training and look forward to more of such collaborations. We believe the exchange will eventually benefit Singaporeans too, especially travellers who may require emergency services in Thailand.”

This collaboration is part of the Singapore - Thailand Civil Service Exchange Programme which is supported by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Singapore.

The course sponsors are B Braun Thailand, Stryker Singapore Pte Ltd, Philips Electronics Singapore Pte Ltd, Draeger Medical SEA Pte Ltd and Laerdal Singapore Pte Ltd.

We would like to invite you and your photographer / camera crew to cover this event. The media conference will be held at Tan Tock Seng Hospital on the 17th of January at 11:30am and thereafter a Surgical Skills Live Demonstration at the laboratory.
