Tan Tock Seng Hospital will turn 162 today, 25 July 2006. To celebrate the hospital’s Founder's Day, there will be a ballroom and latin dance extravaganza at the atrium under the hospital’s crystal Healing Sky Garden which was launched on the 17 th of July 2006.
Ballroom dancing will take centrestage with top professional dancers from Germany, the Philippines, Australia, Malaysia and Singapore. The dancers, who have won honours in competitions such as the Singapore International Ballroom Dancing Championships, will entertain staff and patients as part of our 162nd anniversary celebrations with ballroom, latin and show dance. Thereafter they will also be a jive dance performance by Kopitiam Investments Pte Ltd who are the sponsors for the event.
Under the The Art of Healing programme©, the hospital will use the arts to help distract patients from their ailments, express their feelings and reduce anxiety. Through this the hospital hopes that there will be an improvement in their blood pressure and intake of pain medication which in turn should translate to faster recovery and a shorter length of hospital stay.
“ Hospitalised patients often experience pain, frustration, loneliness and anxiety. They wish that their disease would go away more quickly. If there is something that can address these problems, we should waste no time and prescribe it to patients. Indeed there is, and it is art.” said Dr Lim Suet Wun, CEO for Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the National Healthcare Group.
“Art has universal appeal and is able to transcend many boundaries and soothe the mind in areas currently not accessible.” he added.
“ Mr Alden Tan Siang Hin, Managing Director of The Kopitiam Group of Companies, said “ We are really proud of our staff who have put up this performance today and hope we have contributed in some ways to putting a smile on each of the patients here today. This is not our first public performance, however, it is the first in a hospital environment.
Besides making a cash contribution towards a worthy cause such as the TTSH Art of Healing programme, active participation through such performances makes it even more meaningful.
In 2008, on the occasion of our 20 th Anniversary, we are currently looking into working with the right partner to produce a Kopitiam musical to raise funds for worthy causes such as the TTSH Art of Healing programme.”
“We are very fortunate to have such encouraging and generous support from various sponsors for our past, present and future events. Without their helping hands this hospital would not be the lively, inspiring and soothing place it is today.” said Ms Olivia Branson, Director of Corporate Communications for Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the National Healthcare Group.
TTSH’’s Founder's Day celebration is sponsored by Kopitiam Investment Pte Ltd.
