Through the adoption of technologies such as 3D-scanners, printers and Computer-added Design & Manufacture, the Foot Care and Limb Design Centre (FLC) team has successfully innovated and digitalised their clinical practice and manufacturing methods for customised orthoses and prostheses. This digital transformation has brought better value to patients in terms of design and quality of their customised devices. From this pioneering project, the FLC team transformed the centre's business model to better deliver national prosthetic and orthotic services, enabling patients to have greater and earlier access to care while ensuring care remains integrated and affordable.
The team was recognised for their efforts in utilising ICTs as a tool to complement our healthcare workforce in delivering care that is efficient, safe and of value to patients.
Our success in 3D-shape capture, design and printing has encouraged us to use these emerging technologies for products that are not traditionally offered at our Centre or anywhere else in healthcare. We have since incorporated a user-centred design approach within our own clinical practice to meet the growing needs of our patients."
