Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship Program

Colorectal GS Fellowship

The Department of Surgery, Tan Tock Seng Hospital offers a minimally invasive surgery (MIS) fellowship program for a duration of 6-12 months.

In this program, we aim to train our fellows to perform laparoscopic colorectal cancer resections, and will provide good exposure to a wide range of minimally invasive techniques.

This includes:

  1. Robotic assisted rectal resection
  2. Lateral pelvic lymph node dissection
  3. Extended lymphadenectomy for colonic resection
  4. Transanal endoscopic resection of local lesions
  5. Transanal total mesorectal excision

The program is geared towards trainees who already have a good grasp of basic laparoscopic skills. Our requirements for consideration of fellowship training are:

  1. Post basic specialty General Surgical training
  2. Colonoscopy accredited
  3. Hard working and with a passion to learn​

The Department of Surgery, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, houses multiple subspecialty surgical services. The Colorectal Service (also termed as Team 1) provides subspecialty treatment of colorectal surgical diseases within the hospital. Our surgeons perform more than 300 major elective and emergency operations annually, with more than 80% of our elective colorectal cancer surgery performed minimally invasively. This includes conventional laparoscopic approaches, robotic assisted approaches and transanal endoscopic approaches (including taTME).

Our surgeons are active within the overall Singapore colorectal surgical community, with a perennial presence within the Society of Colorectal Surgeons, Singapore (SCRS). We host multiple local and regional educational events annually on a regular basis
