A/Prof Heng graduated in Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 1990. He joined Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 1996 after his residency. He underwent Cornea & Refractive Surgery Fellowship training at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, which has been repeatedly ranked among the top 3 Eye Hospitals in USA for the last 30 years. After his fellowship training, he was instrumental in introducing the Hospital Cornea Donation Programme to TTSH.
He became NHG Eye Institute’s Head of Cornea Service in 2004 and subsequently was also appointed Head of Refractive Surgery in 2007. He was also Past President of the College of Ophthalmologists of Singapore and is the Deputy Medical Director of the Singapore Eye Bank since 2003.
A/Prof Heng is a nationally and internationally recognised specialist in corneal diseases, refractive and cataract surgery. As a cornea specialist, he is particularly experienced in performing LASIK & PRK, which are surgical procedures that involve reshaping the cornea. His areas of expertise include determining whether patients are good candidates for LASIK, which is important in decreasing the risk of complications after the procedure. Besides LASIK, his other areas of interest are Corneal Transplantation, Excimer Laser PTK, Phakic Intraocular Lenses, Corneal Cross-linking, Keratoconus, Corneal Dystrophies, Recurrent Corneal Erosions, Contact Lens-related problems, and other diseases of the cornea and ocular surface. Patients who have complex problems from local and overseas eye centres are often referred to A/Prof Heng for his opinion and care.
A/Prof Heng has published numerous medical articles as well as co-authored a book entitled Colour Atlas and Synopsis of Cornea and External Eye Diseases in 2003. This book has benefited many Cornea fellows and trainees locally and internationally. A/Prof Heng has been invited to speak in medical conferences on Cornea, Refractive and Cataract Surgery in many countries such as United States, China, India, Italy, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam and has performed many live demonstration surgeries. He has alsobeen an instructor in many LASIK and ophthalmic microsurgery courses.
He is also actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate ophthalmology education and holds teaching appointments as Clinical Associate Professor at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Adjunct Associate Professor at NTU Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He is a member of the Residency Advisory Committee for Ophthalmology and is the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Specialist Training (JCST) Ophthalmology Exit Examination (Singapore), as well as the Chief Examiner of the American Board of Medical Specialties (Singapore) Ophthalmology Examination. He has mentored and trained both local and international ophthalmologists in refractive, cataract, and corneal transplantation surgeries.
A/Prof Heng has served on many national committees including the Specialist Training Committee for Ophthalmology, MOH Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation, MOH Contact Lens Practitioner Board, and Singapore Society of Ophthalmology. A/Prof Heng is a recipient of numerous awards in his career, including the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Plan Overseas Fellowship, Asia Pacific Association of Cornea and Refractive Surgery Educator Award, Spring Singapore Excellence Service Star Award and TTSH Staff Excellence Gold Award.

Dr Fam Han Bor graduated from the National University of Singapore, obtained a Masters in Medicine(Ophthalmology) and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He received his subspecialty training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the University of British Columbia, Canada.
Dr Fam is active as a clinician, researcher and instructor, having given over 100 presentations in international and regional conferences. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals such as the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, the Journal of Refractive Surgery, the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the British Journal of Ophthalmology.
As an educator, he has conducted numerous LASIK instructional courses, medical-in-service and live surgeries throughout Asia. He is widely sought after as a respected global key-opinion leader in the field of phacoemulsification, intraocular lens design, refractive surgery, corneal topography, ocular wavefront aberrations and visual optics. He has a keen interest in the design and optimising of new phacoemulsification and intraocular lens technologies. He is an active member of the prestigious IOL Power Club, an export group dedicated to improving cataract outcomes.
His research interests lie in Visual Optics, Wavefront Science, IOP Calculations, Corneal Topography, Contact Lens and Eye Modeling and Biofilms.

Dr Alex Lau is currently a Consultant at National Healthcare Group Eye Institute@Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
He completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Southampton, United Kingdom, in 2001. He underwent postgraduate training in Ophthalmology locally and obtained his specialist accreditation in 2011.
He was conferred Masters of Medicine(Ophthalmology) from the National University of Singapore in 2008 and attained Fellowships with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh(Ophthalmology), Royal College of Ophthalmologists(London) and the Academy of Medicine Singapore.
Dr Lau was awarded Singapore Ministry of Health Manpower Development Programme scholarship in 2013 and underwent a clinical fellowship at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, United Kingdom, where he was trained in Cornea and External Eye Disease.
His areas of ophthalmic practice include cornea and external eye disease, refractive surgery, cataracts and general ophthalmology.
His main research interests are in ocular surface inflammation and immunology in corneal transplantations.
Dr Lau is active in undergraduate medical education and has been appointed as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Clinical Teacher at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, and Core Faculty Member with the National Healthcare Group Residency Program.
