A cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) is an electronic device implanted in the chest to monitor the heart rhythm and control heart rhythm abnormalities & symptoms.

CIEDs include implantable loop recorders (ILR), permanent pacemakers (PPM) and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD).
