Physiotherapy Sessions: What You Need to Know for Outpatient Visits

What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy, also known as physical therapy, is a healthcare profession that involves the following:
-Rehabilitation to ensure maximum recovery and early independence of an individual who has disease or injury
-Health promotion and prevention of injury

What can You Expect During a Physiotherapy Session?
1. The Initial Assessment
During an initial session, your physiotherapist will ask questions about your condition and will start by providing a physical assessment.

2. Types of Treatment
After your assessment, your therapy will begin. The treatment will vary according to your needs.

Treatment methods include:
-Exercise therapy
-Manual therapy
-Joint mobilisation techniques
-Electro-physical treatments such as ultrasound, heat and electrical stimulation
-Gait and balance training
-Manual lymphatic drainage techniques

Your physiotherapist will assess, plan and explain the treatment recommended. The objectives of treatment are to manage pain, prevent recurrences and improve your ability to perform your daily tasks and functions.

What Should I Wear During a Physiotherapy Session?
You should wear comfortable clothing such as shorts and T-shirts for the physical examination and treatment.

Take note that you may be required to show the area of your injury. If you prefer to have a chaperon during your assessment, please let the counter or your physiotherapist know.

How Long Does a Physiotherapy Session Last?
Each session lasts between 30 to 60 minutes.

If a family member or friend is accompanying you, do share with them that they should wait for you at the waiting area.

How Much Does a Physiotherapy Session Cost?
The cost of treatment ranges from to for subsidized patients and from to for private patients.

Will I get a Medical Certificate After a Physiotherapy Session?
Medical certificate (MC) would not be provided.

If you require a time chit, please enquire at the counter after your therapy session.

I Would Like to go for a Physiotherapy Session. What Should I do?
-Physiotherapy sessions are available on appointment basis only
-If you need to change or cancel your appointment, please contact us at 6357 7000 with 2 days advance notice.
-If you miss three consecutive sessions without prior notice or did not return within three months for treatment, a new referral from your doctor would be required.
-Please arrive at least 10 minutes earlier for registration
-Patients who are late for appointments would be seen at our discretion and may need to reschedule if the clinic is fully booked
