Biodata

Dr Melissa Tien is a Senior Consultant and Head, Training & Education with National Healthcare Group Eye Institute @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. She is also the Clinician Lead, Visual Electrophysiology. She completed her medical training at the Imperial College School of Medicine, London and Ophthalmology specialist in Singapore, where she was awarded the medals for Best Candidate in the Generic (General knowledge and Medical ethics) and Cataract Surgery categories at the Ophthalmology exit examinations. She is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Dr Tien underwent a 12-month fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne, where she trained in Neuro-ophthalmology and Visual electrophysiology under the supervision of A/Professor Owen White, Dr Neil Shuey and Dr Heather Mack. She also had the privilege of training in visual electrophysiology under Professor Graham Holder at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. Her research work includes the use of the ocular-motor system as a surrogate marker of cognitive inhibitory impairment and the characteristics of patients with visual snow syndrome. Apart from her neuro-ophthalmology practice, Dr Tien also specialises visual electrophysiology, which is used to evaluate a variety of visual disorders including unexplained visual loss.

​Dr Tien currently serves as Programme Director for the NHG Ophthalmology Residency Programme, overseeing post-graduate ophthalmology training for the National Healthcare Group.
