Dr. Tan Teck Wei is a Consultant urological surgeon and the lead for genitourinary oncology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). In addition to providing general urology care, he is fellowship-trained in the management of urological cancers, including that of the bladder, prostate, kidney and testis. As part of the holistic, multidisciplinary care for patients with urological cancers in TTSH, Dr. Tan chairs the urology tumour board, leads the MRI-targeted prostate biopsy and enhanced recovery after cystectomy programmes, and is the clinical champion for the robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) clinical pathway. He also pioneered transperineal prostate biopsy under local anaesthesia in TTSH, which has much lower infection rates compared to the traditional transrectal biopsy. Dr. Tan is a strong advocate for patients with urological cancers and mentors the TTSH prostate cancer support group, is a committee member of the Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) Prostate Cancer Survivorship Advisory Panel, and is also the chairman of the 2020 SCS Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign.

Dr. Tan qualified in medicine from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and subsequently completed specialist urology training at both TTSH and Singapore General Hospital. He won a number of awards during his training, including the European Board of Urology Book Prize and the College of Surgeons Gold Medal for being the best urology trainee. He then completed advanced fellowship training in robotic surgery and uro-oncology at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in London, United Kingdom (UK). He was the first non-UK trained urologist to be awarded this prestigious fellowship, which is accredited by both the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS). Guy's Hospital is one of the largest urological cancer centres in the UK and performs the most robotic surgeries in the country. He was trained in open, laparoscopic and robot-assisted cancer surgeries including cystectomy, prostatectomy, intracorporeal urinary diversion, pelvic exenteration and nephrectomy/ nephroureterectomy.

Dr. Tan's research interests include the minimally-invasive management of bladder and prostate cancer, prostate cancer diagnostics and enhanced recovery after cystectomy. He was the lead author for the paper that reported on the first and largest series of MRI-targeted prostate biopsies in Singapore. In view of the superior accuracy of MRI-targeted biopsies, he is an advisor for the Ministry of Health's Agency for Care Effectiveness, which is working to obtain subsidies for MRI-targeted prostate biopsy to be the standard of care in Singapore. Dr. Tan is also a reviewer for several medical journals including the British Journal of Urology International, Prostate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases, and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Clinical Oncology. He is a core clinical faculty member of the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Urology Residency Programme, which trains the next generation of urologists in Singapore. In addition, he is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, and a Clinical Teacher at the Nanyang Technological University-Imperial College London's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He has also been part of the organising committee and teaching faculty for several regional conferences including the Asian Congress of Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery, Asian Summit on Robotic Surgery, and the European Basic Laparoscopic Urological Skills Course.
