Occupational Therapy Management in Motor Neuron Disease

Synopsis

Understanding and Managing Motor Neuron Disease (MND): A Functional Approach.

Motor Neuron Disease (MND) is a group of progressive neurodegenerative conditions that affect the brain and nerves, leading to muscle weakness, atrophy, and impairments in swallowing, communication, and respiratory function. Due to the often rapid and variable progression of MND subtypes, clinicians must have a strong understanding of disease phenotypes to make timely and appropriate interventions.

This workshop emphasizes a proactive, client-centred approach to managing MND, where anticipating future challenges is just as crucial as addressing current needs. A key focus will be on practical strategies for compensating for functional decline through adaptive techniques, assistive technologies, and home modifications.
