2nd GISAID Symposium & Training Workshop: Managing Influenza Through Networking and Information Sharing

Hosted by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Food & Agriculture and Singapore’s Ministry of Health, the symposium is organised by the Institute of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology (IIDE), Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore and the GISAID Initiative.

The Symposium will provide a forum to discuss multi-sectoral collaboration and strengthening surveillance in combating emerging disease. The Workshop will provide hands-on training on the latest version of GISAID’s publicly accessible EpiFlu™ Database to monitor complex epidemiological relationships among animal and human influenza viruses and the detection and interpretation of evolutionary change.

Objectives

  • Raise awareness of sharing comprehensive influenza data via the GISAID platform
  • Encourage cross-disciplinary communication and collaboration
  • Strengthen international interaction and local networks in the Asia-Pacific region
  • Improve bioinformatics skills of participants for application in influenza surveillance
  • Promote understanding of the spread and evolution of influenza viruses, their transmissibility and pathogenicity

GISAID actively promotes the international sharing of all influenza virus genetic sequence, and related clinical and epidemiological, data associated with human infection, and geographic and species-specific data associated with avian and other animal influenza viruses.

IIDE integrates clinical services with academic advancement through research and training. It provides comprehensive clinical services on infectious diseases and clinical epidemiology in addition to its role as the national outbreak response centre. IIDE provides an excellent platform for research and training.
