At 75, Mr Choo's life took a sudden turn when he was rushed to the hospital for emergency dialysis. Needing dialysis three times a week, his only daughter left her job to become his full-time caregiver, giving up her work to care for him.
While waiting for placement at a subsidised centre, Mr Choo had to undergo dialysis at private centres. Very quickly, their Medisave savings ran out and the cost of private dialysis overwhelmed his family.
The support from the donors of our TTSH Community Fund made it possible to provide for interim dialysis while Mr Choo was on the waitlist for other programmes. Alongside the healthcare and social workers of Tan Tock Seng Hospital, our IWantToGoHome Fund helped to lighten the financial weight on their shoulders.
