Program Overview
The Fellowship at Tan Tock Seng Hospital is a comprehensive 6-month training program designed to provide advanced surgical training in the areas of advanced trauma, robotic total knee replacement, and the direct anterior approach (DAA) to hip arthroplasty. Learning Objectives
1. Surgical Techniques and Principles:
- Gain proficiency in advanced trauma surgery cases (Pelvis, polytrauma, complex articular fractures) and techniques, (Approaches, advanced implants, 3D navigation and 3D printing)
- Develop skills in the direct anterior approach (DAA) to hip arthroplasty.
- Develop skills in planning and performing robotic-assisted total knee replacement.
2. Surgical Knowledge of Implants and Systems:
- Understand the various implants and systems utilized in advanced trauma, DAA, and robotic knee surgeries.
- Gain insights into robotic navigation and its application in the surgical process.
3. Research Exposure:
- Engage in research activities related to advanced trauma, robotic surgery, and DAA.
- Contribute to research projects that enhance clinical practices and patient outcomes.
Training Plan
Overall Structure: The fellowship will consist of a mix of clinical and operative training, with a focus on hands-on experience and on-the-job learning. Majority of weekly schedule will be in the operating theatre.
Key Learning Components:

Clinical Training in Adult Reconstruction and Advanced Trauma:
- Participate in outpatient clinics focusing on preoperative assessments and postoperative care.
- Assist and perform under supervision, surgeries including advanced trauma procedures, robotic total knee replacements, and hip arthroplasties via DAA.

Course Attendance:
- Attend a saw bone workshop/course on advanced trauma techniques, robotic surgery, and/or DAA principles.

Project Completion:
- Complete a project or presentation that reflects the learning experience and research exposure gained during the fellowship.
- Engage in structured, mentor-guided learning, with clearly defined goals and measurable outcomes over the course of the six-month assignment.

Additional Activities:
- Engage in regular case discussions and surgical rounds.
- Opportunities for mentorship and constructive feedback from experienced faculty members.
- Attend social events to network with experienced surgeons.

Prerequisites
- Completion of surgical residency or equivalent, with at least 1 year of post-specialty practice.
- Proficiency in English.
- Good attitude, conduct, and professional standing.
- Successful completion of an online interview session with faculty.
- Submission of certification for completion of specialist training, vaccination records and Singapore Medical Council (SMC) documentation for practice in Singapore
