Biodata

Dr Doris Ng is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. She graduated with Honors from The Queen’s University of Belfast, United Kingdom, and completed her post-graduated training with the West Midlands Specialist Training Program, United Kingdom, achieving dual accreditation in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine. She also attained a PhD from The University of Southampton where she studied the health and changes in nitrogen metabolism in patients who have had a total colectomy with and without additional small bowel resection.

Dr Doris Ng subspecializes in Clinical Nutrition. Her areas of interest include malnutrition, intestinal failure, parenteral nutrition and general nutrition support. She is the Director of Nutrition Support Services and leads the hospital’s multidisciplinary Nutrition Support Team. She is also a member of the Nutrition Steering Committee and the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) Implementation Committee. She was a Visiting Consultant in Nutrition Support Services at Sengkang General Hospital from 2019 to 2023.

Dr Doris Ng is also involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. She is a clinical lecturer with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. She is an accredited teacher of the European Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ESPEN) Life-Long Learning (LLL) postgraduate nutrition course and had conducted numerous ESPEN LLL courses in Singapore which were attended by delegates from Singapore and Asia. She is also the course director of the Total Nutrition Therapy postgraduate course.

Dr Doris Ng is the Founding President of the Singapore Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (SingSPEN). Over 10 years, she also served in SingSPEN as the Scientific Chair, Secretary, Vice President and resumes as the President for a second term. She also holds the position as the President of the Parenteral and Enteral Society of Asia (PENSA) in 2025, having served as a council member for the preceding nine years. She has organized numerous congresses and educational events. She also represents SingSPEN as a council member in ESPEN. She has been an invited speaker for local and overseas conferences in her area of expertise.

Dr Doris Ng has led and collaborated with her colleagues in scholarly activities at national level which have resulted in several publications in international journals. She is an invited member of the scientific panels of ESPEN and PENSA in the review of a 5-year update on the Global Leadership Initiative on the diagnosis of Malnutrition (GLIM) and the development of Asia consensus in Home Parenteral Nutrition respectively. She is also an invited member of an international scientific panel developing a consensus report on the GLIM diagnostic criteria for malnutrition in people with obesity.
