Biodata

​Dr Tan Shera completed her MBBS degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2010 and was the first batch to graduate from the Internal Medicine Junior Residency Programme in 2013. She obtained both the Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine) from NUS and the Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) (Internal Medicine) from the United Kingdom in 2012. Dr Tan completed specialist training in Respiratory Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine in 2016 and 2017 respectively. She is currently a Senior Consultant in the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (RCCM). Dr Tan received the MOH Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) Scholarship in 2019 and completed a clinical fellowship in Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) at National Jewish Health in Denver Colorado (USA) under the tutelage of Professor Charles Daley. Dr Tan also served as Clinical Director of the Tuberculosis Control Unit and as physician advisor to the Ministry of Health within the Part-time Physician Scheme.

Dr Tan's clinical interests are in the field of tuberculosis, non-tuberculous mycobacteria, bronchiectasis, critical care and public health. Apart from general respiratory clinics, she also runs subspecialty clinics in Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria and Tuberculosis. She is trained in bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound biopsy. Dr Tan is also actively involved in clinical research in the fields of NTM and TB and is the Principal Investigator of several clinical trials currently underway.

Apart from her clinical contributions, Dr Tan plays an important role in promoting patient safety and improving clinical quality in the hospital. She currently serves as the Deputy Chairperson of the Patient Records Review subcommittee and a Member of the Medical Records Committee. She provides oversight, direction, and clinical leadership on the safe use of clinical alarms and guides the implementation of hospital clinical alarm management policy across the campus as part of her role as the medical division representative of the Clinical Alarms Safety Committee.

Dr Tan is also actively involved in the education of medical students from the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. She serves as Clinical Physician Faculty of the Intensive Care Medicine and Respiratory Medicine Senior Residency Programmes.

Outside of her work in the hospital, Dr Tan contributes as Honorary Secretary of the Singapore Thoracic Society, working to foster strong and meaningful relationships among members of the thoracic community and to enhance the knowledge and practice of thoracic medicine in Singapore and the region.
