Biodata

Assistant Professor Thiruchelvam (“Jega”) Jegathesan graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2007 and obtained Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow (MRCS) in 2011. He completed his residency within the National Healthcare Group before being appointed as a Consultant. His areas of interest are benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and endourology.

Practice areas

He routinely performs endoscopic laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP), GreenLight laser photoselective vapourisation of the prostate (PVP), and minimally invasive BPH therapies such as UroLift, Rezūm and iTind. He also performs routine general urology procedures such as for urinary stones. He established the BPH laser enucleation (HoLEP) service at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 2023 and leads the BPH service and clinical pathway programme. He has contributed to training visiting doctors in prostate enucleation techniques and has presented in his field both locally and internationally.

Training & recognition

Asst Prof Jegathesan completed fellowship training in advanced BPH surgery at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, United Kingdom, under Dr Tevita Aho. He serves on the Ministry of Health’s BPH Clinician Workgroup for Value-Driven Care and on the TTSH Medical Devices and Implants Oversight Committee. He is an Assistant Professor at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, serving as Principal Lead for Urology; a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine; and a core faculty member in the urology residency programme. He has received NHG Health teaching awards (2017, 2023).
