Led by the Centre for Healthcare Innovation's Transformation Office (Kaizen), CHI Living Lab (CHILL) was designed to meet the needs of healthcare industry and co-create with healthcare professionals in materialising their ideas for improvements in care delivery.

Since its inception in May 2019, it has served as a
go-to makerspace for ground innovators. Innovators are
guided in the conceptualisation and evaluation of the
prototypes developed.

Underpinning the innovators' journey at CHILL is a people-centred innovation process of Lean and Design principles. It helps to identify the challenges faced by innovators and facilitates the development of a conducive innovation ecosystem.

For example, at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, a face shield was developed to address the potential supply disruption for personal protective equipment (PPE). In the process of designing the inhouse face shield, the team sought to also address the discomfort experienced by frontline healthcare workers with prolonged use of goggles. The better designed face shield were eventually patented and put on sale for commercial use.

Recognising the importance of building people capability in innovation, the team at CHILL also conducts training programmes and builds co-learning platforms to help healthcare professionals build creative confidence in pursuing innovations. This is a place where healthcare professionals come together, think out of the box, co-create and experiment with new ways to deliver better care as a team.
