A hospital founded on compassion and care by the late philanthropist, Mr Tan Tock Seng in 1844. First sited at Pearl's Hill, this hospital also carried the name of the ‘Chinese Pauper Hospital’. It cared for the sick and destitute of all races and was strongly supported by the local community.

Throughout the years, the hospital moved from Pearl's Hill to various parts of Singapore, but always remained in the central region. Today, it is centred in the heart of Singapore as one of the country's largest multidisciplinary general hospitals.

Several other established institutions work alongside TTSH to make up the 17-hectare campus at Novena known as HealthCity Novena, a part of an integrated healthcare masterplan to anchor the regional health system for central Singapore. If you are a healthcare history buff or would love to immerse in old-world charm and feel the pulse of our healthcare future, HealthCity Novena is the right place for you to uncover our defining stories and moments.
