Introduction to Continence and Urology Services
Urinary incontinence is the involuntary loss or escape of urine sufficient to cause social and/or hygiene consequences. This problem may be permanent or temporary. The Continence/Urology Nurse Clinician works closely with the Geriatricians and Urologists to provide support and counselling to patients, undergoing continence/urological investigations and surgery so as to have a better education/knowledge necessary to take care of the condition.
Our Services Include:
- Assessment and management of urinary incontinence
- Pre and post urological procedure counselling
- Assist in urodynamic investigations
- Perform an ultrasound scanning of the bladder to measure residual urine
- Teach carer or patients to perform Intermittent catheterization
- Perform change and care of male and female catheterization
- Perform change and care of supra-pubic catheter
- Perform change and care of nephrostomy / Ileal conduit bag
- Pelvic Floor Exercise
- Bladder re-education
- Use of appropriate continence aids
