Biodata

Dr. Alyssa Sim is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. She obtained her specialist accreditation in Gastroenterology and Hepatology after completing her Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology training in the National Healthcare Group (NHG) residency programme. She served as Chief Resident and a member of the NHG Resident Council in her final year of training.

With over a decade of medical experience, Dr Sim’s clinical interests span various aspects of the field with a focus on chronic liver disease, liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension. Besides her interest in hepatology, she is competent in performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, and aims to integrate the evolving field of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), into the diagnosis, prognostication and management of hepatobiliary diseases.

In addition to her clinical work, she is actively involved in clinical research and innovation. She has presented her work at various international conferences and has contributed to many publications in the field of digestive and liver diseases over the last few years. She was awarded the National Young Scholar Award by the UEGW in 2023 and is the recipient of several research grants. She is involved in many national and international collaborations focusing on research in the complications of liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension, autoimmune liver diseases and contributes to national efforts for chronic Hepatitis C micro elimination in halfway houses through the Educate, Test, Treat! (ETT) Programme in Singapore.

As a Clinical Lecturer and Adjunct Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine respectively, Dr Sim regularly participates in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. She is currently a Core Clinical Faculty Member of the NHG Internal Medicine Residency Programme, where she is constantly trying to improve the foundation of training for medical professionals.

Besides her interests in research and medical education, Dr Sim also holds several administrative roles and currently serves as an Executive Committee Member of the Gastroenterological Society of Singapore (GESS), as well as professional memberships in the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD).

Dr Sim is fluent in English, Chinese and Malay. She is able to communicate effectively with a diverse patient population and is committed to improving patient care.
