Biodata

Prof Patrick Chan graduated from National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1987. With a strong interest in surgery, he obtained his post-graduate diploma FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 1992.
Prof Chan also obtained FAMS from the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 1996.

His interest in breast cancer surgery started soon after he started his post fellowship training. He went to join the Edinburgh Breast Unit in Edinburgh, Scotland as a specialist fellow in 1997. The EBU is a busy breast unit which treats over 500 new breast cancer cases every year. Prof Chan became a consultant breast surgeon soon after returning from that unit.

Presently, Prof Chan is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Surgery, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and also Director of The Breast Clinic. He joined Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 2001 with the intention to concentrate on the treatment of breast cancers. His unit presently sees and treats over 300 new cases of breast cancer every year.

He specializes in diagnosis and treatment of all types of breast conditions utilizing the latest techniques in breast biopsy, cancer surgery and reconstructive modalities. These include minimally invasive surgery to remove breast lumps, MRI biopsy as well as sentinel lymph node biopsy. His unit believes in the holistic care of breast cancer patients with involvement of medical and radiation oncologists, breast care nurses as well as volunteers who are breast cancer survivors.

Prof Chan is also active in breast cancer research, and had presented in both local and international breast cancer conferences as well as publications in international journals.
