Dr Karen Chia is a Senior Consultant with the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. She received her medical training from the National University of Singapore. She underwent postgraduate training in Ophthalmology, and was awarded Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) from the National University of Singapore. She is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was subsequently elected Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, upon completion of her specialist training.

Her areas of clinical interest include Medical Retina, Cataracts and General Ophthalmology. She completed a clinical fellowship in Medical Retina at the NHG Eye Institute @ Tan Tock Seng Hospital. She is part of the Singapore Integrated Diabetic Retinopathy Programme (SiDRP) team that won the National Healthcare Group team recognition (Silver award) and National Clinical Excellence Team award.

​She participates in clinical research and has presented in ophthalmology conferences both locally and internationally. She is active in medical undergraduate education and holds the appointment of Clinical Teacher, Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University and Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
