Biodata

Dr Jason Chia graduated from the National University of Singapore (1998) and obtained his post-graduate specialist degree, Masters of Sports Medicine from Australia (2002). He has worked as Assistant Director in Singapore Sports Council (Sports Medicine and Research Center) as well as a Consultant Sports Physician in Changi General Hospital and is currently head of the Sports Medicine and Surgery Clinic in Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

As a Consultant Sports Physician, he was involved with sports injury management, fitness testing and exercise prescription, weight management, and extracorporeal shockwave therapy as well as gait analysis.

He has also been involved in the writing and publication of a handbook for exercise prescription for general practitioners (Prescribing Exercise: A Handbook for Medical Practitioners) and has served as the President, Vice-President and Honorary Secretary of the Sports Medicine Association of and the Secretary of the Sports Medicine Special Interest Group. Dr Chia’s areas of clinical research include ESWT (extracorporeal shockwave therapy) as well as biomechanical research.

He has been the Medical Director for sports events including the OSIM triathlon, the Aviva Ironman and the HSBC wakeboarding championship as well as the sports medicine advisor to the medical committee for the inaugural Asian Youth Games and Youth Olympics Games .Currently, Dr Chia is a member of the Singapore National Olympic Council Olympic Medical Committee.

Dr Chia is interested in multi-discipline endurance sports and has completed the Ironman triathlon and now runs marathons as a hobby. As an extension of his interest in endurance sports, his professional interest also includes looking at running patterns and injury prevention and treatment. His current passion is in golf and he has a professional interest in golf injury and swing analysis.
