Clinical Associate Professor Heng Wee Jin is Deputy Medical Director of the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute (NHGEI) and Deputy Clinical Director of Singapore Eye Bank. He is also the Past President of the College of Ophthalmologists, Academy of Medicine of Singapore.

Clin Assoc Prof Heng is Head and Senior Consultant of Cornea Service and Refractive Surgery in NHGEI. As a nationally and internationally recognised specialist in corneal diseases, refractive and cataract surgery, he is particularly experienced in performing LASIK, PRK, Corneal Transplantation, Excimer Laser PTK, Phakic Intraocular Lens implantation, Corneal Cross-linking, as well as managing Keratoconus, Corneal Dystrophies, Recurrent Corneal Erosions, Contact Lens-related problems, and other diseases of the cornea and ocular surface. He was instrumental in setting up the Hospital Cornea Donation Programme in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) in 2003.

Clin Assoc Prof Heng graduated with Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1990 and Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 1996 from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He obtained his Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 1996 and from the American College of Surgeons in 2004. He completed his Cornea & Refractive Surgery Fellowship at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia in 2000, which has been repeatedly ranked among the top 3 Eye Hospitals in USA for the last 40 years.

He is a Clinical Associate Professor in Ophthalmology at YLL School of Medicine of NUS and Adjunct Associate Professor at LKC School of Medicine of Nanyang Technological University.

Clin Assoc Prof Heng has published numerous medical articles as well as co-authored a book entitled Colour Atlas and Synopsis of Cornea and External Eye Diseases. He has been invited to speak at medical conferences and performed live demonstration surgeries in Cataract, Cornea, and Refractive Surgery in numerous countries such as USA, China, India, Italy, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. He has also been an instructor in many LASIK and ophthalmic microsurgery courses. Since 2003, he has mentored and trained many local and international ophthalmologists in refractive, cataract, and corneal transplantation surgeries and has received multiple Best Surgical Teacher Awards at NHGEI.

He is the Chairman of the Ophthalmology Exit Examination Committee of the Joint Committee on Specialist Training, the Chief Examiner of the American Board of Medical Specialties (Singapore) Ophthalmology Examination, and a member of the Residency Advisory Committee for Ophthalmology. Clin Assoc Prof Heng has served on many national committees including the Specialist Training Committee for Ophthalmology, Ministry of Health (MOH) Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation, MOH Contact Lens Practitioner Board, and Singapore Society of Ophthalmology.

​He is a recipient of numerous awards in his career, including the MOH Distinguished Senior Clinician Award (2020), MOH Human Manpower Development Plan Overseas Fellowship Awards (1999 & 2010), Asia Pacific Association of Cornea and Refractive Surgery Educator Award, Spring Singapore Excellence Service Star Award, National Healthcare Group Service Champion Award, TTSH Staff Excellence Gold Award, and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital Distinguished Service Award for Eye and Vision Health.
