​Dr How is a senior consultant surgeon in the Colorectal Service of the General Surgery Department, Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
He graduated from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (National University of Singapore) in 2007 and obtained his postgraduate masters of medicine degree in 2013. He exited as a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and entered into the register of specialists in Singapore in 2014.

Dr How specializes in minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of colon and rectal conditions. His interests include colorectal cancers and inflammatory bowel disease. In addition, he is also trained in surgery for advanced and recurrent pelvic cancers, having completed his overseas fellowship in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney under Professor Michael Solomon.

Dr How is a strong advocate for Enhanced Recovery After Surgery(ERAS), a program which focuses on evidenced based, multidisciplinary, perioperative protocols for faster recovery from major surgery. He played a pivotal role in establishing the ERAS program in Tan Tock Seng Hospital, which is one of only 2 Centres of Excellence recognized in Asia by the international ERAS Society. He is currently Chairperson of the TTSH ERAS program and has been invited to speak on ERAS in multiple conferences in the region.

He is also Deputy Director of the Endoscopy Unit in his hospital and president elect of the Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (Singapore).

Besides clinical work, he is also involved in the training of medical students and surgical residents. He is Program Director for the Surgery-In-General Program, senior clinical lecturer for both Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine (National University of Singapore) and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (Nanyang Technological University).

In his free time, Dr How treasures quality time with his family and also enjoys photography and painting.
