Biodata

Adjunct Associate Professor Kong obtained his medical degree at the University of Malaya. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, UK and a certified specialist in Rheumatology and a Fellow of Academy of Medicine Singapore.

He is currently the Head of Department and Senior Consultant Rheumatologist at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He is a recipient of Ministry of Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship and completed rheumatology ultrasonography training at the Leeds University, United Kingdom, under Professors Paul Emery, Dr Richard Wakefield, and Dr Andrew Brown.

Adj Assoc Prof Kong set up the first dedicated rheumatology ultrasound service in the region at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 2004 and has since trained many rheumatologists in rheumatology ultrasonography.

He is a Clinical Adjunct Associate Professor with Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University Singapore, and Senior Clinical Lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore. He is active in academia and research, and has published on his interest in Rheumatology Ultrasonography, Systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren’s syndrome, and Systemic Vasculitis in medical journals and health magazines. He has also presented studies in various local and international conferences. He is active in patient and medical education and has spoken in many bilingual public and GP forums on rheumatologic topics.

​He is the Past President of the Singapore Society for Rheumatology and the past Chair of the Rheumatology Ultrasound Credentialing Committee of the Chapter of Rheumatologists, Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He is currently the Convener of the APLAR (Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology) Imaging SIG (Special Interest Group) and a member of the Faculty of Medical Experts, Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
