Biodata

Dr Jonathan Kuang is currently a consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He completed his Internal Medicine training with the National Healthcare Group (NHG), served as the Chief Resident and was awarded Resident of the Year (2016). He subsequently attained his specialist accreditation in Gastroenterology with NHG and was the Chief Resident in his final year of training.

He received the Health Manpower Development Plan award from the Ministry of Health in 2023 and successfully completed a one-year fellowship in Neurogastroenterology and Motility at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in Boston USA, under the mentorship of Dr Braden Kuo. During his fellowship training, he learnt how to perform endoscopic procedures such as the EndoFLIP and wireless BRAVO capsule insertion. He is also trained in the management of complex gastrointestinal (GI) motility conditions and Disorders of Gut Brain Interaction.

Dr Kuang currently runs the GI motility lab at TTSH and performs procedures including high resolution esophageal manometry, 24-hour pH impedance and high resolution anorectal manometry testing. He also runs the Neurogastroenterology clinic at TTSH and sees patients with complex GI motility and functional disorders.

Aside from clinical work, Dr Kuang is actively involved in research and has presented at multiple local and overseas GI conferences. His areas of research interest include Gastroparesis and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. He was awarded the Rome Foundation Disorders of Gut-Brain Interaction International Research Award in 2025.

Dr Kuang is passionate in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and previously received the NHG Teaching Award for Junior Clinicians (2015). He is an adjunct Lecturer at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine and a clinical lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Dr Kuang is currently the Acting Program Director of the Gastroenterology Residency program at NHG.
