Biodata

Dr Lim Lian Kiat is an Associate Consultant in the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. His clinical interests lie in asthma, biologic therapies, and precision medicine for airway diseases. He is dedicated to advancing respiratory care through evidence-based practice, translational research, and patient-centred innovation.

Dr Lim graduated with an MBBS from the National University of Singapore and obtained his Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (UK) and Master of Medicine (Internal Medicine). He subsequently completed specialist training in Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he served as Senior Resident / Registrar from 2018 to 2021. During this period, he gained extensive experience managing a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, and sleep-disordered breathing, whilst also providing critical care support in the intensive care and high dependency units.

To deepen his subspecialty expertise in asthma, Dr Lim undertook an international fellowship in severe asthma at the renowned Royal Brompton Hospital in London — one of the world's leading centres for complex airway disease. Concurrently, he was appointed Clinical Research Fellow at Imperial College London, where he participated in research on airway diseases, including biologic therapies and precision approaches to severe asthma management, and cough hypersensitivity. His training encompassed the full spectrum of severe asthma care, from phenotype-driven assessment and biomarker evaluation to the use of targeted biologics such as anti-IgE, anti-IL-5, and anti-IL-4/13 therapies. This experience shaped his vision for a more individualised, data-driven approach to respiratory medicine.

Following his overseas fellowship, Dr Lim completed a short clinical attachment at Singapore General Hospital, focusing on the integration of biologic therapy services into local clinical pathways. He continues to collaborate with peers both locally and abroad to enhance access, safety, and outcomes for patients receiving advanced asthma treatments.

Beyond clinical care, Dr Lim is passionate about education and mentorship. He contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes, guiding residents and junior doctors in respiratory medicine. His teaching emphasises clinical reasoning, communication, and the practical application of physiology in patient care.

His clinical interests include the use of biologic agents in severe asthma, phenotype-directed therapy, and the multi-disciplinary approach to cough hypersensitivity. His work aims to translate evidence-based approaches into practical interventions that improve patient lives.

Motivated by compassion and curiosity, Dr Lim strives to deliver holistic, patient-centred respiratory care. He believes that optimal asthma management extends beyond pharmacological control — encompassing education, adherence, mental well-being, and empowerment for self-management.
