Biodata

Dr Farhan is a senior consultant in the Dept of Orthopaedic Surgery.
He obtained his basic medical degree from the National University of Singapore School of Medicine in 2004. After working in various specialities, he found his calling in the practise of orthopaedics.

Training in various orthopaedic departments in Singapore, he completed the rigorous course and was certified a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 2012. He was awarded an overseas scholarship under the Human Manpower Development Program by the Ministry of Health in 2013. This allowed him to further his dual interests in Foot and Ankle Surgery and Lower Limb Reconstruction in Liverpool, UK.

Foot and Ankle Surgery is a fascinating and fast evolving subspecialty in orthopaedics where problems can range from toenail issues to symptomatic deformities to complex fractures and sequelae of neurological problems. Dr Farhan constantly strives to improve and update himself on the latest concepts and techniques in treating them.

He is also a member of the international AO Trauma organization, reflective of his other interests in trauma, especially that of the lower limb. Another area he finds challenging are lower limb deformities secondary to trauma and neurological problems. Through his training at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, he is well placed to treat them with several skill sets involving internal fixation as well as circular external fixators, applying the techniques of Ilizarov.

Besides his clinical duties, Dr Farhan is also active in education, receiving several awards for it. He is involved in the teaching of medical students from NUS and NTU medical schools, NHG orthopaedic residents and in advanced nursing courses. He is also invited overseas to teach and lectures on topics related to Foot and Ankle and Trauma.

He participates actively in research, mentoring and leading residents in their various biomechanical and clinical projects. For these efforts, he has several publications in peer reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences on their work. Amongst the awards he has received are the Minister for Health Award in 2006 for his Indonesia disaster relief efforts and Healthcare Humanity Award in 2010.
