A/Prof Ng Oon Tek received the MBBS from the National University of Singapore.

He completed Internal Medicine training in Singhealth cluster and obtained the MRCP(UK) and MMed (Int Med) in 2004, with the Siah Cheng Siah Gold medal for the best Internal Medicine candidate. Subsequent Infectious Disease subspecialty training was completed in Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 2008. As a recipient of the NMRC Overseas Research Fellowship, A/Prof Ng completed a Master of Public Health degree at Johns Hopkins followed by a year-long research attachment with a US NIH funded group led by Prof Thomas Quinn. As part of his work with the group, he was awarded a Young Investigator Award at the premier HIV conference, the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Boston, 2011.

A/Prof Ng has an interest in research integrating public health, laboratory medicine and clinical medicine to improve patient outcomes. Accordingly, he has been working on developing HIV tests for clinical care together with colleagues in TTSH and from other institutions. He is the TTSH site investigator for the Treat Asia HIV Observational Database, a US NIH funded project examining HIV in Asia. His main current research interest is translating whole-genome sequencing technology to improve patient care outcomes.
