Biodata

Dr Tina Koh obtained her medical degree from National University of Singapore. After housemanship, during her medical officer rotation, she developed a keen interest in Cardiothoracic Surgery. Hence she began her advanced surgical training in Cardiothoracic Surgery in National Heart Centre. After completion of her advanced surgical training and received a gold medal for her specialist exit examination FRCS (CTh), she decided to pursue further training in Thoracic Surgery.

Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has been on the rise as the preferred approach with proven benefits and improved postoperative outcome. Hence, she went to South Korea to train under the regional expert surgeon for Video-assisted Thoracoscopic (VATS) Surgery in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. After a wide exposure to MIS cases and hands-on experiences in Korea, she returned to work at the National Cancer Centre (NCC) as a thoracic surgeon, majoring in MIS surgeries. With the increasing incidence and earlier detection of lung malignancy and hence surgical volume, she has set up the Surgical Lung Cancer database.

She is also enthusiastic and involved in undergraduate and post-graduate training. She is a clinical educator in Yong Loo Lin Medical School. In addition, she is a member of the Chapter of Cardiothoracic Surgery. She previously worked in National Heart Centre as a senior consultant. She is now continuing the pursuit of MIS surgeries with better techniques and outcome in Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Her interests include lung cancer, mediastinal tumours eg thymoma, airway and pleural disease as well as benign conditions such as pneumothorax, with a main focus on minimally invasive thoracic surgeries.
