Biodata

Dr Leonard Yip received his medical degree from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom in 1995. He subsequently received his Masters degree in Medicine (Ophthalmology) from the National University of Singapore. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, United Kingdom and a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore. He is also a member of the American Glaucoma Society. 

As a recipient of the Ministry of Health Human Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship, Dr Yip completed a Fellowship in Glaucoma with the University of British Columbia, Canada under the mentorship of Professor Frederick Mikelberg and the esteemed faculty of the Eye Care Centre, Vancouver. 

Dr Yip is currently a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist in the Department of Ophthalmology, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and NHG Eye Institute. He is the Head of the Glaucoma Service, NHG Eye Institute. He also holds the appointment of Adjunct Assistant Professor, Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University and Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. Besides general eye diseases, expertise in the area of cataract surgery includes the use of toric and multifocal intraocular lenses. Expertise in the management of glaucoma includes laser peripheral iridotomy, selective laser trabeculoplasty, trabeculectomy, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, aqueous shunt (tube) surgery, goniosynechiolysis and transcleral cyclophotocoagulation. 

Aside from clinical practice, Dr Yip is active in clinical research and has published in numerous international ophthalmology journals. His research interests are in glaucoma, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, visual fields, optic nerve head and retinal nerve fibre layer imaging. His keen interest in training and education has led him on to the role of ACGME Core Faculty Member.
