Art of Healing – St. Margaret's School (Secondary)

Synopsis

The St. Margaret's School (Secondary) String Ensemble, formed in 2003, is a dynamic group of around 40 musicians playing violins, violas, cellos, and double basses. Under the direction of conductor Mr Siew Yi Li, the ensemble explores a wide range of music, from Tchaikovsky to Pixar soundtracks, showcasing their versatility.

The ensemble regularly perform at school events, charity concerts, and community venues, enriching the school's musical culture while building lasting friendships. Notable performances indlucde the "In Youthful Company" series at the Esplanade, the Singapore Anglican Communitiy's 50th Anniversary Dinner, and the "Art of Healing" series at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The ensemble has earn Distinction awards in the Singapore youth Festival Arts Presentation in 201 and 2021, and an Accomplishment award in 2023.

The St. Margaret's School (Secondary) Choir is an SSAA female ensemble of 29 vibrant Choristers from diverse backgrounds. The choice has performed at annual school events, including Speech and Prize-giving Day and Founder's Day, and have participated in notable external/events like the President's Star Charity (2023) and Limelight (2020).

Their versatile repertoire spans classical pieces such as "Ave Verum Corpus" by Francis Poulenc to lively selections like "Ants'Summer" and the Traditional Filipino Folk Song "Paruparong Bukid." Under the conductor Mrs. Heng-Yap Shing min, the Choir has achieved significant milestones, including Distinction awards at the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentations in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2023, and a Silver awards at the Singapore International Choral Festival in 2016.
