The Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) Clinical Fellowship in Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery offers qualified surgeons comprehensive subspecialty training in managing conditions of the hand, wrist and peripheral nervous system -​ from complex trauma to elective reconstruction.

Fellows participate in trauma, elective hand surgery, microsurgical reconstruction and multidisciplinary outpatient care, with supervised operating experience, ward and clinic duties, and opportunities for research and teaching.​

Scope of training

  • Acute and elective hand, wrist, and peripheral nerve conditions

Learning objectives

By the end of the fellowship, you will:

  • Developed advanced clinical skills in assessment and management of hand, wrist and peripheral nerve disorders.
  • Gained proficiency in reconstructive microsurgery and microvascular techniques.
  • Integrate surgical care with rehabilitation for optimal outcomes
  • Participate in research and departmental teaching​

Structure and curriculum

  • Duration: 6 months (an option to extend till 12 months is available)
  • Clinical work: Outpatient clinics, elective surgical lists, emergency surgical lists, hand surgery, microsurgery sessions.
  • Responsibilities: Ward rounds, outpatient clinics, supervised surgeries, on-call night duties for hand trauma/microsurgery.
  • Education: Morning teaching sessions are held 2-3 times per week. The fellow is encouraged to present one or more teaching sessions during the fellowship term.
  • Research: At least one scholarly project or quality improvement activity is encouraged during the fellowship term.​

Eligibility

  • Completed specialist training in Hand Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, or Plastic Surgery (or an equivalent training).
  • ​Keen interest in the treatment of disorders of the hand and wrist, and microsurgical reconstruction​
