During any infectious diseases outbreaks, tensions and anxiety will be at an all-time high. In such situations, many would seek guidance and comfort from a leadership figure. That was what Adj A/Prof Brenda Ang is to many.
Well-known as a pioneer and “mother” of Infectious Diseases (ID) prevention, Prof Ang has spent three decades developing the infectious diseases specialty in Singapore, and has been instrumental in the formation of health surveillance criteria and preventive guidelines - elevating the safety standards and healthcare quality in Singapore.
During past ID outbreaks such as from Nipah virus, SARS to COVID-19, Prof Ang and her team worked tirelessly to keep them at bay to lessen the impact on the nation's healthcare system. Her leadership, expertise and knowledge in infection control and prevention has been highly sought after nationally and internationally. She is truly a role model and an inspiration to many of her peers and younger generations of ID physicians – many of them have established themselves to be leaders in the field.
After all these years, Prof Brenda also takes the time to share her knowledge in an academic capacity – taking on teaching roles in medical schools and for other healthcare institutions.
In recognition of her achievements, Adj A/Prof Brenda was conferred with the acclaimed National Outstanding Clinician Mentor Award.
