Dr Aneez D.B. Ahmed is currently the Senior Consultant and Chief of Thoracic Surgery Division in Department of General Surgery in Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. He returned from his HMDP in 2009 and has worked as a surgeon specialising in Thoracic surgery. He was promoted to the position Chief of Thoracic Unit in 2011.

Recognised as the first among the ASEAN cohort to get a Level III Certificate Specialist training in Robotic Thoracic Surgery from EACTS, Dr Aneez receives referrals from other hospitals in the country and other countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and U.A.E.. He has been appointed and worked as an observer, and examiner in the Exit Exams for FRCS (Cth) Singapore and College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

His expertise and knowledge in minimally invasive thoracic surgery has led to his numerous invitations as a speaker to conferences and workshops in the region including Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Hong Kong and Bangkok. Most recently, he joined as a board member on the newly formed ASEAN VATS Study Group, which aims to improve and advance the approach of VATS in ASEAN.

Dr Aneez is highly interested in clinical and basic science research. Past research efforts have led to publications in renowned journals, with the most recent one published by “CELL”” in January 2012. He is also a member of the Editorial Review board of the SMJ presently. His present projects includes being a co-PI in the new genomics study for NSCLC in Singapore, in collaboration with NCC and NUS.

In addition to his appointments within TTSH and across other local hospitals, Dr Aneez also serves as a champion for General Surgery in EAS in TTSH, and is a member of iMig (International Mesothelioma Interest Group), ITMIG (International Thymic Malignancy Interest Group) and ISMICS (International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery) internationally.
