Biodata

​Dr Atasha Asmat graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1997 and completed her Advanced Specialty Training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at National University Hospital, Singapore in 2008.  She was awarded the NUHS -Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) in 2010 and received training  in general thoracic surgery at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, UK (2010-2011) and thoracic surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, USA (2011-2012).

She holds teaching appointments at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, NTU. She is a core faculty member of the National PGY1 program and is also involved with teaching residents from the NHG General Surgery and NUHS Cardiothoracic Surgery residency programs.  She has conducted numerous training workshops in video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) for residents in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery.

Dr Asmat holds various professional memberships, namely with the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons and the International Association of the Study of Lung Cancer.

She has presented at local and international conferences and is passionate about mentoring junior medical staff in research. She has published various papers and book chapters on Thoracic Surgery in local and international peer-reviewed journals such as Singapore Medical Journal, Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Annals of Thoracic Surgery. 

Dr Asmat's administrative responsibilities  at TTSH include the Patient Education Steering Workgroup, JCI Internal Auditor and Hospital Clinical Ethics Committee. She is also a member of the National Transplant Ethics Panel of Independent Medical Practitioners.

Her clinical interests include thymoma and thoracic surgical oncology.
