Biodata

Dr Ernest Fu serves as a Consultant with the Department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), with subspecialty interest in the care of patients with head and neck cancers, thyroid nodules, salivary gland tumours and parathyroid diseases.

Dr Fu earned his medical degree (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2009. He was part of the pioneer batch of residents to complete his ENT specialization training under the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-International (ACGME-I) National Healthcare Group (NHG) residency programme in 2016. During his residency, he held the role of Chief Resident for the NHG ENT Residency Programme.

Dr Fu has been a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh since 2011 and attained the Masters of Medicine (Otorhinolaryngology) from NUS in 2013. He is an accredited specialist by the Singapore Medical Council and a current Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

In his pursuit for expertise in head and neck oncology, Dr Fu has undertaken clinical observerships at renowned institutions worldwide, such as the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. In 2018, he graduated with honours from the International Federation of Head and Neck Oncologic Societies (IFHNOS) Global Online Fellowship. He was also the recipient of the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) award from the Ministry of Health (MOH), Singapore which enabled him to complete a one-year fellowship in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology in 2023, under the guidance of Professor Koh Yoon Woo, at the Yonsei Severance Hospital in Seoul, South Korea, known for its extensive experience in robotic head and neck surgeries.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr Fu is dedicated to advancing the quality of care for patients. He is an active member of the hospital’s tracheostomy care workgroup and serves as the Deputy Secretariat of the Peer Review Learning (PRL) Quality Assurance Committee for his department.

In the field of research, Dr Fu has published widely in several peer-reviewed journals (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6782-7182). Particularly noteworthy is his strong interest in quality-of-life (QOL) studies for head and neck cancer survivors.

Dr Fu’s commitment extends to educating and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals. He serves as the Principal Lead for Otorhinolaryngology for the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University and holds the position of Senior Clinical Lecturer with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. In addition, he is a core faculty member for the NHG Otorhinolaryngology Residency Programme.
