Professor Leo is the Executive Director of the Nactional Centre of Infectious Diseases (NCID).

Professor Leo is an Infectious Diseases clinician with keen interest in Public Health. She started the comprehensive HIV program at CDC in 1995 and till today has continuously devoting her effort in improving HIV management as well as the general well-being of those infected and affected by the disease. Notably she led her team battling through multiple episodes of outbreak in Singapore in recent years; the Nipah (1999), SARS (2003), Chikungunya (2008), the Pandemic Influenza outbreaks in 2009 and the current surge of dengue cases since 2013. Her experience in outbreak management is frequently called upon as advisor at national, regional and international level. For her outstanding battle against SARS, she was conferred the most prestigious national award “The Public Service Star” in 2003. Professor Leo was appointed the first Director of the Institute of Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology in November 2012. She was tasked to provide the administrative and professional leadership to establish IIDE with a view to improve integration and coordination of infectious diseases and its related fields in Singapore. In addition, she oversees the building of the new state-of-the-art infectious disease hospital, the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), which is targeted to be ready by year 2018.

Professor Leo graduated from National University of Singapore in 1983 and obtained Master of Medicine and MRCP in 1989. A life-long learner who never ceases to improve herself, she obtained her Master of Public Health (Saw Swee Hock, School of Public Health, NUS) in 2013. Apart from her clinical and administrative duties; she is a highly sought-after speaker who is equally involved in teaching and research. Topics of her research interest include dengue, influenza, emerging infections and HIV. She has well-over 170 peer review publications to date.
