Biodata

Dr Tan Yung Khan is a consultant in the department of Urology. He is Director of Endourology and Director of the Minimally Invasive Urology Fellowship at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2000 and completed his postgraduate surgical degrees from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2006 and Masters in Surgery from NUS in 2007. He is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.

Dr Tan completed his Specialist Urology Training at Tan Tock Seng Hospital in 2010 and received the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) Fellowship to train at the University Texas SouthWestern Medical Center under the mentorship of Dr Jeffrey A Cadeddu and Dr Margaret Pearle. This training focused on Minimally invasive surgery, the development of novel microparticles in the treatment of stone disease and research on new ways to ablate kidney cancers.

Dr Tan also received the Ministry of Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) award and Matched in the Endourology Society Fellowship programme at Columbia Medical Center in New York. Under the mentorship of Dr Mantu Gupta  and Dr Ketan Badani, Dr Tan continued to develop his skills in Endourology and minimally invasive urologic surgery with a special interest in stone disease. This included participation in multidisciplinary preventative stone clinics.

Dr Tan has a strong interest in research and has published over 20 original research articles and book chapters. He received the award for Best Paper at the Engineering and Urology Society meeting  which was part of the American Urological Association Annual meeting in 2011.

Dr Tan is also involved in humanitarian relief work. In recognition of his contributions, he has received the Courage Award for managing SARS patients in the 2003 pandemic, the Healthcare for Humanity Award in 2006 and the Minister of Health Award in 2007 for medical relief work during the tsunami in Bandah Aceh and Merapi eruption and earthquake in Indonesia.
