Dear Partners and Friends,

The mark of a strong community is the relationships that are formed within. Enduring relationships allow us to come together to support and care for each other. In this issue, our partners share how they have been building stronger communities in their respective neighbourhoods and in the process provide better care to everyone in the community.

One of the key success factors in relationship building is having the opportunity to spend time together. In their different centres, NTUC Health reaches across generations to bring kids and seniors together to help children learn and engage seniors in a different and lively way.

Kebun Baru Citizens Consultative Committee shows us the lengths that a close-knit community will go to in order to support their neighbours. Kebun Baru CCC came together with their partners to help their seniors with dementia continue to enjoy a good quality of life in their neighbourhood by building a dementia-friendly Kebun Baru.

A community that is activated and empowered is a Better Community. Wisma Geylang Serai shares how they have been working closely with our Community Health Teams to enhance the health of our Malay community by teaching them skills to live healthily. We also feature 70-year-old Mdm Ang, a member of TTSH’s Centre for Health Activation’s Peer Support Leaders Club, who conducts exercises at MWS Senior Activity Centre, Teck Ghee Vista to help peers stay fit and healthy. She is the epitome of an empowered senior.

Finally, we in Central Health are blessed with a strong community of partners. We want to thank AIC, Ang Mo Kio - Thye Hua Kwan Hospital, Ren Ci Community Hospital and St Luke’s ElderCare Residence for supporting TTSH during the cluster outbreak earlier this year. By working closely together, TTSH was able to flow our stable patients to them, thereby allowing us to optimise our stretched manpower during that difficult season.

While we continue to weather the storm that is COVID-19, let us also continue to build healthier, happier communities together as partners in Central Health. Do stay safe and keep vigilant.

Yours Truly,
Loh Shu Ching
Executive Director,
Division for Central Health
Tan Tock Seng Hospital & Central Health
