​Issue 21​

In October, at the Singapore Patient Conference, many of us came together to launch the NHG Network for Senior Volunteers to boost volunteerism amongst the silver generation. The new network will pool programmes, resources, and place-based volunteering opportunities and be the platform for seniors to learn valuable skills and knowledge. Volunteers will soon be able to tap on the Health Kampung module under NHG Cares App to locate suitable volunteering opportunities near home.​

​Issue 20​​

The journey to a Healthier SG has begun! Healthier SG was officially launched by PM Lee on 8 July at the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park amidst great fanfare. The launch of this initiative heralds a sea change in the healthcare landscape with more preventive health programmes, a greater role for primary care and more joined-up care between health and social care partners.​​

​Issue 19​​

The coming launch of Healthier SG has seen many health and social care partners and providers across Central Singapore build up their preventive health efforts and expand their networks of care with one another. One key group of participants in this network are the activated residents and volunteers who complement and supplement our community care partners in looking after the more vulnerable residents and supporting their caregivers.​

​Issue 18

2023 promises to be an exciting year heralding a sea change in our healthcare system. In this first issue of the year, we look at Central Health's largest subzone of Hougang, home to some 227,000 residents of all ages and walks of life.

Issue 17

When looking for the location of Geylang on a map, one notices two blue streams on either side of this Central Health subzone. Geylang is flanked by two rivers – the Kallang River on its western boundary, and the Geylang River running down the south-eastern side. These rivers remind us that life is a journey. Whilst we strive to maintain our health and live well, there will be times where we may fall ill, become frail, or encounter more complex care needs. Hence, the “River of Life” approach helps us to be mindful of the multiple facets of health and design the delivery of care in a holistic manner.

Issue 16

Our spotlight on the different subzones of Central Singapore continues in this issue, as we look at the iconic Toa Payoh town. Arguably one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the country, Toa Payoh is home to a large number of elderly residents who have lived in Toa Payoh all their lives. Coupled with its relative small size and a vibrant town centre, Toa Payoh exudes a strong sense of community and neighborliness that is quite unique in Central Singapore.

Issue 15

The Novena-Kallang subzone used to also include Rochor until the start of this year when the population in Rochor was assigned to Singhealth, together with some parts of Geylang. The Singhealth and NHG teams met with partners working in Rochor to ensure that care and support would continue seamlessly.

In this issue, we look at system-level transformations by NHG and TTSH to enable better care delivery and partnerships across Central Singapore, as well as how the TTSH Ang Mo Kio Specialist Centre has created new models of care and workflows with primary care for more effective care in the community.

Issue 13

While value has been central to our care delivery system, how do we define value? The textbook definition of value in healthcare is health outcomes per dollar spent. Outcomes should be measured not just from a provider’s perspective, but also and perhaps more importantly, from the patient’s and client’s. For example, an improved rehabilitation MBI score for the provider should translate to the patient’s ability to walk to the coffee shop.
